I recently filmed a short music video for Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais remix). my classmate Charlotte and I featured in the music video. As it is summer and the day I filmed the video on was gorgeous sunshine it was an opportunity to create a music video using the male gaze theory and the focus of the video being on girls and is filmed in the eyes of a heterosexual male. The video follows the forms and conventions of many dance music music videos - set in summer and feature girls wearing summer clothes such are crop tops, shorts and skirts. This video is not something to be taken seriously we were just practicing our music video filming and editing skills and following the style of music video for the chosen genre.

In the music video that I created for our first video assignment, it featured two female characters: my classmate Charlotte Greaves and I. Summertime Sadness was a song which was popular in the singles chart in summer 2013 and each year when summer comes around more and more videos appear which 'show off' the perfect summer which often features young girls in shorts and summery clothing. In Summertime Sadness in particular there girls are not necessarily wearing revealing clothing as Lana is wearing a skirt and a elbow length sleaved shirt:

 

 

 

Although the skirt is quite short I do not think that this outsift is too revealing. I was inspired to use a similar type of styling with a slight twist for my interpretation of the video. I wore a skirt, shirt and a leather jacket:

Here is my final edit of Summertime Sadness. I had a few issues uploading the video onto my own vimeo account and so Sir had to post it to his own account. This is my first attempt of a music video in the genre of pop/dance music. I took influence from the Lana Del Rey vs Cedric Gervais music video for Summertime Sadness and produced a video in the same style. The video shows two girls in a field. There are both performance clips and narrative clips which is common in music videos of this genre which have a female vocalist.

Editing - Summertime Sadness

Yesterday I began editing together my footage for my first attempt at creating a music video. The software I am using is Adobe Premier Pro CS6. I only had around half of the lesson to actually get some editing done after discussing our next task which is to create another music video to a more professional standard for next week and also it took some time to get my footage onto the server. As I was not left with much time, I came back to edit at lunch yesterday to make up for the lost time. I was busy with commitments with other subjects at lunch today so I could not edit today and tomorrow I am going to York University Open Day. I will resume editing in Thursdays lesson. So far I have edited around 25 seconds of footage together in short clips edited to the beat of the song. As the tempo of the song is quite fast so therefore so is the editing.
