Michael Shore Research

Michael Shore Research

Michael Shore looked at music videos and his conclusion was that 'music are recycled styles that music videos are an information overload and therefore builds on the views of adolescent male fantasies, and that music videos are soft core pornography with cliched imagery.'

A lot of mainstream artists that are in the charts and that  everyone is aware of such as Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Their music videos contain and are often based on provocative dancing and revealing outfits; this appeals to young men.

In terms of my genre of music which is dance music there are many examples of videos which fit with Shore's theory. One example would be:

Alex Gaudino released this track in 2007. The video features many women which look very similar, they are all very slim and are dressed identical. This shows that men don't see women as individuals but just sexual objects to meet their fantasy. The women wear very revealing outfits and use there instruments in a sexual way.

The video I am going to analyse considering the views of Michael Shore is Benny Benassi's Satisfaction.

This video shows a male fantasy of scantily clad women using tools. This appeals specifically to a heterosexual male audience. The video excludes women as it is so ridiculous and so obviously made for the viewing of men.

The use of cliche imagery which is very suggestive and has clear sexual references.

The women in the video are just seen as sexualised objects for the viewing of men.
